Due to asthma Wyatt's first surgery date last month was rescheduled to May 2...so yesterday we woke up bright and early to get to the hospital by 6:45 a.m. I have to say how grateful I was for that first attempt. Although we were at the hospital for several hours...all ready to go...just to find out that we wouldn't be able to do the surgery that day...it was a great practice run! I know Wyatt felt a lot more comfortable going to the hospital...in fact, he was really excited to get there (we didn't really explain what would happen...just that he would see the doctor and get to play with toys.)! We planned on dropping Luke off over at Jared's parents house and Wyatt was so anxious to get to the hospital that he suggested Dad drop Luke off in his car while I took him to the hospital. Not only was Wyatt ready this time, but I was much more relaxed too. Everything turned out great! After checking in, Wyatt changed into the hospital gown (he asked if his gown was for a little girl...they didn't have any blue available.) and then we got to go to the play-room for about an hour before a nurse came in to help get Wyatt's sleeping mask all ready. Wyatt decorated his mask with stickers and chose the bubble gum flavoring to go inside. He must have sniffed that mask close to 100 times. Poor guy was so hungry I'm sure! After talking to the doctor for a little bit Wyatt followed the nurse down the hall on his bike to the "sleepy room". He was so brave! He gave me and Jared a quick kiss and then at the end of the hall he waved goodbye. Jared and I waited for about an hour before the doctor came to talk to us. He informed us that everything went well and then brought out the little jar containing Wyatt's tonsils and adenoids (I spared you the picture). I don't know how Wyatt functioned with tonsils that big. They were huge. Pretty soon the nurse came in to have us be with Wyatt while he woke up. It took him awhile to wake up completely...and he was confused, but he did really well. He just wanted to get out of the bed and he kept sitting up abruptly. It was actually a little funny to see him and watch his reaction. He wanted an orange popsicle right away, but it took him like 30 min to finish it because he kept falling asleep. Once we got to our room he was wide awake and continued to be the whole rest of the day. Jared left around 1:00 to pick Luke up and take him home, so me and Wyatt hung out until we got to go home around 7 pm. It was my goal to not have to stay the night so I had Wyatt eat and especially drink a lot. The main concern was that he would not be able to swallow and get dehydrated. I told him over and over that if he would drink a lot that we could go home. We walked the hallways, put puzzles together, watched 3 movies, and played with toys. It was a long day.
On his way to the "sleepy room"
Not yet awake from the anesthesia
Watching his 3rd movie
Today Wyatt did really good, in fact you wouldn't be able to tell he had surgery just yesterday except for the fact that he sounds funny when he talks. He woke up and asked me why he sounded like a little baby. He now understands what the doctor did exactly and last night he told me he wanted to have his tonsils back! The doctor prescribed Lortab for the pain...but Wyatt has been absolutely crazy today...seriously bouncing off the walls, so we might just try Tylenol from now on. Boy was I wrong when I thought he would be laying around and whining, (which might actually be a little refreshing) but he has been just the opposite. He spilled at least 5 drinks today and won't sit still long enough to eat or even go to the bathroom. It's funny watching him, but I'm not sure if I can take this kind of energy for the next couple of weeks!

So glad everything went well. Love the new little boy's name. We are still a little stumped!
We missed you too for the dinner, but we will have to get together soon, before you have the baby. Take care and so glad to see new pics.
He is so cute! I have similar pictures of my oldest. It was a scary thing to send him down that hallway, he was braver than I was. Glad to hear that all turned out great! Good luck chasing him around with all that energy!
He looks so cute in those pictures! The one of him biking on down the hall to the "sleepy room" is the best one. Glad to hear everything went well.
Even though you told most of this to me over the phone, I still laugh reading it! Wyatt does well in hospitals I think... I remember when he was first born and we had to keep taking him to the hospital to get his heel pricked--"Aww dawgonnit"... remember?? What else did she say? I'm so glad you've updated sister! I have a new blog address now... its carrieanddanelder.blogspot.com. Love you!!
